For many people childhood fun isn’t confined to video games and superheroes, in fact, for some, it involves the creation of gooey, colorful slime.

You probably have lots of old shaving cream in your shower, right? Or maybe your mom’s laundry detergent is just screaming out for a slime experiment.”

Have a few tricks up your sleeve if you want to be a DIYer. From mixing the right ratios of ingredients to ensuring your kids won’t end up with a big mess this process will help you in everything.

So if you ever wondered how to make a nice big batch of slime at home (or if you’re thinking of starting a slime business), this post is for you. This guide will show you how to make slime with shaving cream and laundry detergent without chemicals! Let’s move forward!

Is Slime Safe?

Parents use slime to teach kids about science and biology, and it is a great addition to any party! But is slime safe?
Many kids don’t understand how dangerous slime can be. They often think of it as playtime fun, but it can also be a severe infection and disease source. When using slime, you should keep these basic guidelines in mind: Use gloves when cleaning slime from hands, especially if it’s been in contact with a wound.

Chemical cleaners such as borax can be harmful to your health when exposed to them repeatedly and unchecked.

According to several news articles, borax in small doses is fine if all participants wear gloves and use diluted borax, saline, or baking soda solution instead.

2 Ways to Make Fluffy Slime With Laundry Detergent and Shaving Cream

Many people have a query in their mind; can we only make slime with liquid laundry detergent? That’s not the truth. With powder laundry detergent, you can also create grime, but for this, you have to work a little more.

Let’s explore making slime with both forms of laundry detergent (powder & liquid).

Method 1: Shaving Cream Slime With Liquid Laundry Detergent

Before discussing how to create slime with liquid laundry detergent, let’s check out what we need.

For this mud, you only need three ingredients (almost certainly already in your kitchen).

  • Liquid Laundry Detergent
  • Shaving Cream
  • Glue
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Knife or fork
  • Food Color (Optional)

Step 1:

Take a small bucket or bowl and glue to make fluffy slime. Make sure that you are only using liquid glue. There is extra work and steps involved in using a glue stick.

Take one glue stick and break it into small pieces. It is necessary to add water to the broken glue to create consistency.

Because it is difficult to combine, you can also heat up it for 30 seconds in the microwave. The glue stick will turn into a liquid form when you microwave the bucket and will be helpful to make the slime-forming process easy.

Step 2

Add liquid laundry detergent to the melted glue after it has been mixed in the water. Blend the mixture well to make the grime fluffy.

Step 3

Add shaving cream foam into the mixture that will help give the mud a fluffy texture.

Step 4

Additionally, if you wish to use some food color, be sure to use just two drops. Always use food color in liquid form. In case, if your food color is in powder form, please convert it into liquid form and proceed with it.

Step 5

Spread out the slime on a flat surface and knead it thoroughly as a final step.

Method 2: Make Slime with Powder Laundry Detergent & Shaving Cream

You need to take a few simple steps to make slime with powder laundry detergent and shaving cream. Please have a look at the ingredients and appliances:

  • Powder Laundry Detergent
  • Shaving Cream
  • Glue
  • Water
  • Food Color (optional)
  • Small Bucket or Bowl
  • Knife or Spoon
  • Air-tight Box

Step 1

The first step is to convert your powder laundry detergent into liquid. Follow the specific steps to transform powder into a liquid:

  • Take a half cup of water
  • Pour two tablespoons of powdered laundry detergent into the cup
  • Mix it well until the spots are completely dissolved.

The solution is ready to be used in slime recipes

Step 2

Please use less water when you use powder laundry detergent. Put some glue in a bucket and add water. Mix it well by using the knife. Be sure to use both forms of glue (liquid & stick), but I prefer to use liquid glue.

Step 3

Pour laundry solution into the mixture. As you mix it, it gets fluffier.

Step 4

Add shaving cream if you want fluffier mud, and to play well. Pour food color or glitter if you like the slime colorful and shiny (Optional).

Step 5

  • Let it sit for 15 minutes after adding the shaving cream
  • Start kneading as soon as the crud forms
  • Keep mixing until all of the slimes have formed and are thoroughly mixed
  • Now it’s time to put in some effort

Step 6

Now your sludge is ready to play. When storing it for the next performance, be sure to use the air-tight box. Put in the air-tight container and place it in a cool place or refrigerator.

What to Do if Slime Dries Out?

If the mud begins to crack or dry out, some add-ons can smooth it out. In case the dirt persists, you can add these additional ingredients. A few minutes of vigorous kneading can often remove dryness from grime.

You can improve the slime’s texture by adding a few drops of shampoo, but make sure it is a moisturizing shampoo. Moisturizing shampoo gives the mud a fresher look. After adding an ingredient, you should knead the crud well to distribute it evenly.

When dried slime gets hard, you can fix it by adding a few drops of moisturizing lotion and kneading it thoroughly.

First, knead with just a few drops of water. Sometimes, it’s possible to fix the dry slime with just 2 to 3 drops of water. In addition, if it still feels dry, you can try other methods, especially if the grime feels runny after being sprayed with water.

It may be possible to fix the grime by adding more glue, but be careful not to use too much. Adding a bit of activator to the bond may be necessary if you feel it is too thick.

Can You Make Fluffy Slime Without Borax?

Yes, you can and this recipe will use a saline solution to make fluffy slime. Unlike the traditional borax silt recipe used in chemistry demonstrations, this recipe does not use borax powder. For this, the saline solution should contain sodium borate or boric acid.

These ingredients are mud activators, just like borax powder is part of the boron family. Slime activators such as sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid contain borate ions, which mix with the PVA glue to create an extraordinary stretchy substance.

Polymers like glue are made from long, repeating molecules called strands. As the molecules pass one another, the bond will remain liquid.

In the presence of borate ions, long strands start to connect. It becomes less like the original liquid after they tangle and mix and becomes more rubbery and thick like slime.

Tips for Slime Creation & Play

Here are some safety tips to make mud:

  • A travel-sized contact solution is a good idea for people without contact lens wearers at home. Travel-sized bottles provide enough slime for one batch of grime and are less expensive than full-sized bottles.
  • If you want to create mud at home at an affordable price, you can buy glue, baking soda, glitter, and a tablecloth from a local store.
  • Use an outdoor tablecloth or oilcloth to cover your table, which is easier to clean. A flexible cutting board, in addition to plastic placemats, is ideal for protecting surfaces during slime play.
  • Playing with slime can be dangerous, so avoid touching your mouth, and wash your hands afterward.
  • After the mud dries, it becomes more difficult to remove, so it’s a good idea to wash your work area with warm soapy water when you are finished working.

Wind up

Making slime with shaving cream and laundry detergent is too easy and quick. You just need to know which ingredients to add to your mixture and how much each ingredient should you take to add to it. It is also important to add the right amount of water at the right time to your slime.

I’ll recommend using liquid glue and liquid laundry detergent to get better results out of your craft.
